The Berlin Psychoanalytical Institute - Karl-Abraham Institute - of the German Psychoanalytical Association (DPV) (branch of the International Psychoanalytical Association - IPA -) has been founded as "polyclinic and training institute" in 1920 and was, after the destruction by the nazis, rebuilt in the context of the new foundation of the German Psychoanalytical Association in 1950, as the first training institute of the Freudian psychoanalysis in Germany after the war.

Today, the Berlin Psychoanalytical Institute (BPI) is a government approved psychoanalytical "training institute with polyclinic" located in Berlin-Mitte. The modern curricula and therapy rooms, as well as the library, are situated close to the Potsdamer Platz.
